ABOUT KONARK :- This 13th century sun temple of konark odisha is an architectural marvel as it considered one of the grandest temple of india. Although the main structure of the temple has been collapsed around 150 years ago, yet the surviving structure represents the full glory .

 It is believed that the temple was built by King Narasingha dev of Eastern ganga Danasty around Ad 1250.

My First visit to Konark

It resembles a colossal Charity with 24 wheels, pulled by seven stating horses, and has a three tired pyramidal roof topped off by a fine spire. The sun- God's Chariot also represents the seven days of the week, and the 24 hours of the day, in its concept.

The temple is a brilliant chronicle in stone, with impressive sculpture,  Every aspect of life is represented here, and the erotic imaginary, despits the sublimation of human love manifisted in courtless forms scenes from court, civic life and war also done with great Precision.

Behind the Stories:


Konark sun temple is not only interesting for its majestic structure but also for the stories that lives in the folklore for ages. One of the stories that describes the construction of the temple is the story of 12 year old bright kid who sacrificed his life to save 12000 craftsman by putting the "KALASHA" placed on the temple. Whenever these craftsman had failed multiple times and no body knew how to top the kalasha .

As the euphoria of sucess subsided, Dharmapada  see people feared the king wouldn't be too kind to the faild craft's man as the kalasha was completed by a 12 year kid and not by the craftsman themselves.
